The Travel Tools I Never Plan a Trip Without

Planning a trip can feel overwhelming — tabs on tabs, conflicting advice, and that nagging fear you’re missing something important. That’s why I rely on a few essential travel tools every time I plan a custom itinerary — whether it’s for myself or for my clients.

From booking flights and trains to navigating data and luggage, here are the tools I never skip (and why they’re worth adding to your travel kit).

✈️ Flights & Award Booking: Seats.aero

If you’re even thinking about using points or miles to book a flight, this is the first place I go.

Why I love it: Seats.aero scans dozens of airline sites to find award seat availability that most search tools don’t show. It’s fast, simple, and works beautifully for premium cabins and long-haul international trips.

Best for: Clients who have points on Amex, Chase, or Capital One cards and want to fly business or first class without burning a fortune.

🚆 Trains in Europe: Trainline

Europe has one of the best train networks in the world, but booking across countries (and languages) can get messy. That’s where Trainline comes in.

Why I love it: It lets you book rail tickets across multiple countries — all in one place, in English, with digital tickets and seat selection. Bonus: you can compare train vs. flight travel time and price.

Best for: Multi-city trips in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, or the UK where flying isn’t necessary — and trains are part of the fun.

📱 International Data: Airalo or Holafly

No one wants to arrive in a new country and realize they can’t call an Uber, use Google Maps, or check into their hotel. Avoid the stress — get an eSIM ahead of time.

Why I love them: Both offer eSIMs you can install on your phone before you even leave the U.S. Just activate it once you land and you're connected instantly — no roaming charges, no SIM card swaps.

Best for: Trips outside the U.S. or Canada, especially if you’ll need constant access to maps, bookings, and ride shares.

🧳 Luggage Storage: Bounce

What if your Airbnb check-out is at 10am, but your train’s at 5pm? Or your flight lands early, but you can’t check into your hotel until late afternoon?

Why I love it: Bounce partners with local shops and hotels to securely store your bags for a few hours (or all day). It’s affordable, insured, and saves you from hauling luggage around cities.

Best for: Anyone with early arrivals or late departures — or travelers doing quick day trips between cities.

🌐 WiFi Finder: WiFi Map

While I always recommend having a data plan or eSIM, sometimes you need free Wi-Fi in a pinch. That’s where WiFi Map comes in handy.

Why I love it: It shows verified Wi-Fi networks near you — from cafes and hotels to airports and coworking spaces — with login info shared by other users.

Best for: Digital nomads, business travelers, or anyone trying to avoid using up data in high-traffic areas.

🚕 Ride Share: Lyft, Uber, and Local Options

For most international trips, I recommend travelers download both Lyft and Uber, plus any local ride apps (like Bolt in Europe or Grab in Southeast Asia).

Why I love them: Having multiple apps gives you flexibility if one isn’t available or surges. I include local transport tips in all my itineraries so clients always have a Plan B.

Best for: Evening arrivals, rural or hilly areas, or when public transport isn’t running.

💡 Final Thoughts

I use these tools on every single trip I plan — and they’ve helped my clients avoid stress, save money, and feel totally prepared.

Whether you’re building a luxury European itinerary or a quick weekend getaway, I tailor tech and tools based on your travel style.

Want a fully custom trip planned with all the right tools — and none of the stress?
