How to Have a Designer's Eye When You Don't

Some people naturally have an eye for design. They know what looks good together and how to put style a room. They even have the ability to put together pieces from different styles, textures, patterns, and colors. Others, however, have a very difficult time making a home look cohesive and using the decor they've collected over the years to work well together. I'm here to tell you that it is possible to unleash your inner designer and create a room straight from HGTV. It's actually pretty simple and all you have to do is follow a few simple steps.
First, it's important to declutter...or at least be a pro at hiding your clutter! No matter if your style is modern, country, glam, or anything else on the spectrum, having papers scattered on your coffee table or lotions all over your bathroom counter is not going to help your case. So make sure you have meticulously gone through each room of your house so that all of your practical belongings are stored away in a clean and organized fashion that is efficient enough for it to stay that way!
Now the next step is the fun part. Go on Pinterest, and if you don't have one, where have you been?? Search for inspiration pics for style, furniture, and decor for every room in your house and save your favorites. Make sure that for each room, you have a theme...it could be vintage, it could be color, it could be the style, but choosing pictures that all fit your theme will ensure that the pieces you ending up choosing will work together well. These will be your tools when you're shopping and arranging each room.
Now you get to shop in your storage, on amazon, or at home goods for all the pieces you need that match what you've found in the pictures. It doesn't have to be an exact match of course but having these pictures to go off of will ensure that you like each piece, each piece will match, and that they will represent your style as a whole.
This process is how I put together my own bedroom area and living room area in my small studio apartment and how I put together reception or ceremony designs for events. It will take a little practice but once you've mastered this technique, you can use it in all areas of your life. I've started to implement this event when I make wardrobe choices so I can create a more clear and definitive style and it's been so helpful. I highly recommend trying this out because it's fun and simple. Please feel free to reach out for help, tips, or advice, and I'd love to see your before and after pictures. If you still doubt your capabilities, I'd be happy to come over and do each step with you from beginning to end! That means decluttering, organizing, pinning, shopping, and lastly, decorating. It's one of my favorite things to be able to transform a room or an entire home and I've helped friends and coworkers upgrade their bedrooms, offices, kitchens and more for several years now. I'd love to tackle your space and add it to my portfolio so let me know!
Thank you for reading and I hope I've made your day!
