Traveling and Connections

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

Traveling is one of my biggest passions. On any given day, it could surpass wedding planning. I'm extremely lucky to have been able to travel to over 10 countries. I went to Canada when I was a young kid and took a spring break trip to Mexico in college. I also studied abroad my junior year of college in England. While I was there, I visited Scotland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Netherlands. Since then, I've been able to revisit a couple of those places and explore different cities with friends from all around the world. Growing up going to an international camp and now working at a second one has really given me ample opportunities to visit the people I've met for free. If I could give advice to anyone at any point in their life, it would be to reach out to people and make connections because it will pay off in more ways than one. Not only do I have more than a dozen countries to visit with houses to stay at, but they stayed with me in Nashville while I was living there and will always have an open invitation wherever I am. Even better, all of those people will get married one day and by continuing the friendships I've made, they're more likely to come to me when that happens. I first learned to embrace this mindset in college because the president of High Point taught it. He would always remind us to introduce ourselves and make an impression because you never know who you're talking to. On an airplane for instance, you could be sitting next the the CEO of your dream company and if you give him your business card or he gives you his, he could be hiring you 6 months later for your ideal job.

I think you guys get the point after the tangent I just went on, but if you haven't gotten the opportunity to travel yet, I'll leave you with this... take life by the reigns and run with them because life is short and you only regret the chances you don't take. I know that's cliche but traveling to other countries and experiencing their culture, languages, and food are the best memories of my life and I never get tired of it. I have always been horrible at saving money but one of the main reasons I've not been able to recently is because I'm always thinking of the next place I'm going to go. My next 5 places; Croatia, Iceland, Greece, New Zealand, and Thailand. Let me know if you've been to any of those places and things you recommend. From where I've already been, I highly recommend England and Netherlands. Unbelievable culture and people! I'd love you hear where all of you reading are from too, maybe somewhere I've never been.

Hope you're looking up flights right now, until next time...I hope I made your day,

Gabriella
