My Unpopular Opinions...From Dogs to Chocolate

Hey guys! Welcome back to the diary of my random thoughts and experiences that I feel so inclined to share with you all... After taking a short break because of the weird lack of motivation last week compared with the spurt of motivation I have this week caused by the ups and downs that are quarantine, I'm excited to be back sharing with you. I also happened to start a YouTube channel yesterday (with my surge of motivation) under my first and middle name...Gabriella Blais, so go check out my GRWM video! For today, I'm going to tell you some of my most unpopular opinions. Within the last couple years of my life where I have really been immersing myself into the adult world, I have had countless interactions with individual people and groups of people where I hold an opinion that is completely opposite to the majority. It can be very humourous on the surface level to be discussing a topic that everyone loves and then for me to say "Wait, am I the only one that doens't like...", fill in the blank. However, on the flip side, when this happens time after time with almost everyone you hang out with, it can feel very isolating, like I'm the only one that doesn't like something. It's not just that I don't like one thing, it's the combination of all the things I disagree with people on that makes me feel this way. At one point, I even decided to advertise all my dislikes on my dating apps, not because I thought it would attract guys to me, but because I was tired of getting to know someone and find all of the things we don't have in common. I'm not saying I want to have everything in common with people I meet, but in regards to the more important decisions about building a life with someone that relate to ones' personal values, I'd like to line up with a possible partner. So with all that being said, here are 20 of my most unpopular opinions. Some are lighthearted and just fun facts about me but some are the ones that come up on a regular basis in my life that almost everyone I meet disagrees with me on.

1. Coffee - I think coffee tastes gross, smells gross, makes you have bad breath, makes you poop, and is a waste of money. It causes people to be dependent on caffeine and I just don't understand why anyone would try to "get used to the taste" because they need caffeine or because it's a social beverage. If I need to wake up more on the occasional morning, I'll have an iced Chai latte but if you don't get used to having caffeine, then your body will figure out how to function without it. Plus, it tastes DISGUSTING. I simply don't understand, even mixed with other things, the flavor is just too strong. And that's my opinion on that.

2. Ross - He is my favorite character in Friends. Everyone says they hate him and he's so annoying but I think he's hilarious and I love that he ended up with Rachel and I think they were on a break. Also Phoebe and Joey are just annoying 99% of the time and not the funny kind of annoying.

3. Facetime - I hate facetime. I hate calling people, strangers or my friends. I hate texting unless I need to make plans with someone. I just don't like keeping in contact with people digitally. Let's just spontaneously hang out!

4. Bacon - I used to love Bacon before I became a pescatarian but every since then I think it tastes and smells gross. Certain other meats I still like and crave but bacon just repulses me now, even if my eggs are just cooked in the bacon fat, I don't like the taste. I don't know why.

5. Trump - I don't like the president of the United States. Put aside his republican policies, I simply think that anyone who speaks the way he does to people and about people, in the public eye, in a position of power is unnacceptable. I used to say when he was running for president back in 2016 that you shouldn't vote for him just because he's a shitty person. It doesn't matter whether his statements are in context or out of context, he has repeatedly shown that he is a disrespectful, arrogant, self-centered man in the press, on Twitter, and in his life prior to his presidency. He had a TV show all about firing people for god sakes. I could go on and on about this and I realize that this is the majority opinion now that I'm living back in the Northeast, however I spent the last 5 years living in the south so you can imagine how often I came across people who STRONGLY disagreed with me.

6. Concerts - I've only been to a few concerts in my life and don't get me wrong, they were enjoyable. But in general, I don't listen to music based on the artist. So there aren't very many that I know all their songs. Therefore, I don't have much interest in going to concerts because I won't know more than half the songs, and for me, that's just not fun since I can't sing along.

7. Chocolate - I do not like chocolate. Not much to explain here that I will not order a chocolate dessert or buy chocolate snacks or eat anything with that flavor. The only time I like it is when it's mixed with caramel or peanut butter and it is not the prominent flavor.

8. Country - I love country music. Since I lived in the south for a while, I didn't really have a choice but to adopt the love others had for this genre of music. It's all that would play on the radio and in friends' playlists. Now that I'm back in the North, I'm reminded how much other people dislike it. I find it perfect for any mood, any day, any time of year.

9. Showers - I hate showering. The process before, during, and especially after is not enjoyable to me. Theres just so many steps and it takes so long and I don't want to be wet. It's like when someone throws you in the pool when you only planned on tanning and society trys to throw me in the shower just because they think I'm dirty when I'm not yet.

10. Kids - This one is probably my most strongly felt opinion that people don't understand. I don't want kids. Ever. I won't change my mind. I don't hate all kids, I just don't want to be around them. I don't think they're cute, I don't like that they're messy and can't do anything for themselves, and I don't want to spend my money, time, and life making lunches, going to sports games, and wiping their butts. It's simply not who I am, who I was meant to be, or what I was meant to do. I have always felt this way and if you have ever seen Grey's Anatomy, then you have seen the scene where Christina tells Owen why she doesn't want kids and I have never related to anything more in life. This is why I am pro-choice and it is why I am feminist because people aren't born just to reproduce. They can have a different purpose. It is so refreshing when I meet someone who agrees with me because they are the only ones who truly understand this choice.

11. Thanksgiving - This is my least favorite holiday. I don't like the food except mashed potatoes. I like mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole but my family doesn't serve either. The only reason I don't hate it completely is because of the family part.

12. Office - I did not find this show funny and I don't plan on trying to watch anymore episodes.

13. Straws- I like straws, but I also like the environment. This does not mean I want a paper straw. Paper straws get soggy and are gross so please just don't give me any straw or a plastic straw. Or better yet, a metal one!

14. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones - All three of these series are overrated and I have no interest in trying to enjoy them. They didn't hook me yet and I'm okay with that.

15. God - Once again, let me remind you that I lived in the South for 5 years. I also want to be clear I don't hate God. I just hate when people who believe in God and practice Christianity throw it in my face. Something about christians in the South is so much more aggressive than in the North. My mom goes to church and it doesn't affect my life but a friend goes to church and prays for me because they think I'm going to Hell because of my choices. Like damn! You do you and believe what you want but I don't go around trying to make you disbelieve in God so don't do that to me. And don't let your religion affect your political beliefs. If you can't back up your opinion with a reason that doesn't involve God, maybe you should reconsider your opinion.

16. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies - These are superior to the chocolate chip cookie. And it makes me mad when I order cookie dough ice cream that the cookie dough is also chocolate chip...as if there is no other kind of cookie! What about sugar cookies, or snickerdoodle, or peanut butter. The ice cream is ruined with the chocolate.

17. Alcohol - There are two drinks I like excluding sugary tropical frozen ones...Champagne and Baileys. Neither of which are great for a party or a night out. I also don't enjoy the flavor of either more than a sprite or even a water. I also don't like the feeling they give. I don't understand why drinking alcohol ever became a social activity to do together or why people want to to it every weekend like crazy or why they want to drink a beer or glass of wine every night after work. I just don't get it and it's very frustrating.

18. Pineapple - I think pineapple on pizza is totally acceptable and it's a nice balance of salty and sweet!

19. Beyonce - She is overrated. She has some good songs but I don't know why she is the "queen".

20. Dogs - This is gonna be the one that people get mad at me for. I don't like dogs or any animals THAT much. Everyone is obsessed and posts pictures nonstop of their pets and everyone wants to pet them walking down the street and they expect me to have a huge reaction when they show me their dog and I just don't really care. I don't want one myself either even if I do find it cute because I don't want to wake up at a certain time to have to feed them everyday or be home at night to do the same or have to pay for a petsitter if I want to leave for vacation. I want to be able to be spontaneous, even if I never am.

So now you know that I'm a freak of nature and don't like fun, let me know which of these you disagree with the most or if by some miracle you agree with any, I'd love to know! Please don't take any of these personally, I just am sharing my thoughts and also wanted to make you laugh a little during this quarantine.

I hope I made your day brighter,

Gabriella
