Function of Beauty Review - Worth it?? NOT SPONSORED

Hey everyone! It's so good to be writing again. Today, I'll be sharing my experience with Function of Beauty with you. I was tempted to try out this company because so many content creators rave about it but they always do so in sponsored videos. Their before hair pictures look perfectly fine and their after hair photos just seem like they have different lighting and they actually straightened and brushed their hair. And maybe just a trim for their dead ends. With all that being said, I purchased all the products I could from them and tried them out. Here's how it went.

To give you some context, I have always had pretty great hair, at least to societies standards. For me, it's too flat, too silky, and too straight. But we all want what we can't have. I filled out the online quiz about my hair type and chose my customizations to length, hydrate, volumize, soothe scalp, and nourish roots. I love that you can customize it, aesthetically the brand is beautiful, and the trendy aspect is fun but I paid so much more money than I usually do on my perfectly satisfying Suave shampoo and conditioner. I got convinced that I needed a personalized product to improve the hair that didn't even have issues.

My first complaint with the company is the price. Two 16 oz bottles is $50. I knew this going in but I thought it was worth mentioning. You can also add a leave in conditioner, hair mask, and a hair serum that are custom formulas as well so I got those too because I wanted to try out their full range of products. I also figured that whenever I dye my hair blonde again (which I hope to do by the end of the year), it will need the attention after bleach. My second issue is that it took probably about a month to ship to me, and this was before corona started. When I started using the shampoo and conditioner I noticed that the scent and eucalyptus tea tree ingredients were not nearly as strong and tingly as I had hoped. If you've ever used tea tree shampoo and conditioner you know the amazing feeling it gives your scalp. I got 5% of that feeling but only if I let it sit in my hair for 5 minutes. I also had to use 4-5 pumps every wash in order to lather enough shampoo everywhere and especially in order to get enough conditioner to get my knots out. Once I left the shower and my hair dried (I air dried it just like I have since I was an infant) it had static which never happened with Suave, which is the second and only other reason I need conditioner. The only positive difference I noticed in my hair is that it is softer. It is not any more volumized or hydrated. My scalp is actually more dry than before and I don't know if thats because of how I answered the quiz and how it thought my hair produces oil but either way, it didn't do what I wanted. I'm not willing to retake the quiz to make sure the shampoo and conditioner are more hydrating and risk wasting another $50. The leave in conditioner I started using when I ran out of the shampoo and conditioner. I went back to Suave mostly because the price isn't worth it for me. My hair is good enough on its own I guess. However, I have no complaints about the leave in conditioner, it gets out the knots in my hair and I don't experience static. As far as the hair mask and the hair serum go, I don't need either but the hair mask is a nice pamper activity. The serum I don't even remember what it's supposed to be used for because I threw away the papers and information and instructions it all came with. That is totally my fault and I admit that but just being honest about my hair journey! The bottle caps also come twist off but they provide pumps to use instead. The pumps come apart easily though when you try to lock them or unlock them so be careful with that. They also send you a pack of mini cute stickers which is cool but if that's what my money is partly going towards, I don't want it. I've had worse experiences with companies but I don't recommend it. If your current products aren't working for you, go try it out because maybe you have problems with you're hair that you'd like to change, but if you're content, don't spend the money or risk the change. Just make sure to be very specific and clear going in with what you want for you hair.

My hair is still very healthy because I don't straighten it, curl it, or use heat or products. That's also why it grows so fast even though I only get haircuts once a year. So if you're really looking to fix your dead, dry hair, try that instead! I'm just being honest so I hope you appreciate this but everyone is different so it's always individual and up to you.

I hope I made you day a little more relaxed with this brief review,

XO Gabriella
